Big Bold Magnolias Ink On 3 August Blog Hop

Hi guys!
Thank you for joining us on the Inkon3 blog hop featuring the newest stamp set, Big Bold Magnolias. One of magnolias might look familiar since it’s featured in our Heels to You set, but it’s been so popular, we decided to dedicate an entire stamp set to it.

Now, for the card I made with the brand new stamp set Big Bold Magnolias!

To start with, I stamped up the biggest bloom and the slightly opened bud on Canson XL water colour paper. As I wanted to do some no-line colouring, I used the fabulous Fadeout No Line Coloring Ink and stamped the images twice. For the colouring I have used brand-new-to-me water colours from Arteza. It’s a 36 pack half pans water colours of really yummy colours, and they worked beautifully!

I didn’t really plan out my card before I stamped the first images though, so I needed more to fill up the front panel. On more Canson XL paper I stamped up the rest of the Big Bold Magnolia flowers and leaves with the same Fadeout No Line Colouring ink, and coloured these in with the Arteza water colours. These I fussy cut out, rather than using the coordinating diecuts as I wanted no white to show around the images.

Because I had been silly and not planned out the layout, I had a terrible time putting the card together. I had also used a stitched rectangle diecut on the panel but that did not help matters at all. This is the kind of pickle that happens when you get too excited to use new stamps! Oy vey.

Anyway, I decided I had to save the colouring I had done as I was rather pleased with it. The solution was to heat emboss a sentiment from the Dogwood Flower stamp set to say ‘Have a fabulous birthday’. I used the Artic White Ultra Fine embossing powder on black card stock. First, of course I used an anti-static tool all over it and then with the help of my MISTI I stamped the sentiment with Juicy Clear Embossing & Watermark ink

I used a banner diecut on it but trimmed it down a bit, by running it through my cutting machine twice. Each time, trimming a little off each side. This banner I eventually decided to put at the top of the panel. Then I arranged a few of the fussycut flowers and leaves around the big bloom, these I added with foam tape to create some dimension.

The final thing to do was to add the whole shebang to a white card base and then walk away before I started overthinking things again.

I have a little video of the making of this card up on my YouTube channel, if you want to have a little look.

That’s it from me for today, now it’s time to hop on to the next person on the list, who just happens to be a dear crafty friend of mine, for more inspiration and some serious ooh-ing and aah-ing!

Thanks for stopping by today! Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica. 1. Your magnolias ARE beautifully colored! I’ve purchased some Arteza watercolor inks myself and can’t wait to get them! Great first blog visit on the hop!

    1. Thank you! I was so annoyed with myself when I realised I had limited myself so much by placing the flowers right in the middle like that. Oh well, usually we learn from our mistakes and I hope I will remember this next time!
