Re-cap of #TheDailyMarker30Day challenge.

Hi and welcome back to my little blog!

If you like colouring, you might have heard of The Daily Marker hosted by Kathy Racoosin. It’s a challenge where she challenges you to take 5 minutes per day to yourself and colour, with whatever medium of your choice. The challenge is running for the whole month of August, and I have been taking part every day.

This is a re-cap of my projects from the first eight days, as it started on a Sunday Aug 1st. My aim is to do a re-cap post every Sunday with the cards and colouring I have done for it.

For Day1 I picked this cute penguin stamp from Mama Elephant. I adore these guys. It’s coloured in with Copics and then I ink blended a background with Squeezed Lemonade, Salvaged Patina and Chipped Sapphire. It’s my current fave combo!

The background is splattered with some gold watercolour from the Starry Night palette from Kuretake. It’s my go-to for gold. The card is finished off with the word die that comes with the coordinating diecuts for the penguins.

On Day 2 and 3 I coloured in this fabulous Botan Peony from Picket Fence Studios, with Fuchsia and pink copics. This card is finished off with a word die from Neat & Tangled (they have sadly closed down) and a generous sprinkling of Clear Sparkling sequins.

Day4 I made a card as part of my WOW! Embossing design team commitments, with the Snowflake stencil and Midnight embossing powder from the Twilight Trio.

I also ink blended some Chipped Sapphire and Black Soot around the edges for some drama, added some gold strips on each side of the card and a sentiment in Rich Gold embossing powder. There is a reel for this one HERE.

This card was actually for Day5, but I forgot to post it on my Instagram that day, oops. I have recently joined the Crafty Meraki design team and will be making a couple of videos a month for them. I used the Elegance stamp set and coordinating diecut for my first video, which I coloured in with Ink On 3 Atelier re-inkers mixed with Liquid Pixie Dust to make shimmery watercolour. To get the no-line colouring effect I used the Fadeout ink, also from Ink On 3.

Day 5 was also dedicated to doggie cards! The reason being that my sister has adopted a little shelter doggie called Otto, and we are all smitten!

These doggie stamps are from Colorado Craft Company, and are illustrated by Anita Jeram. The card above, with images from Wishing You Happines, is coloured in with Copics, and finished off with one of the sentiment from the stamp set, as well as Otto cut out with In Stitches Alpha Dienamics from MFT Stamps.

The one below is from Watch This! stamp set, and it´s done with water colours, as well as the same Dienamics to spell out Adoption. The reel for these two can be found HERE.

I am also going to make a little mini-album or something to send to my sister so she can keep a little mini-diary of her journey with Otto.

On Day6 I tried some new-to-me markers, Paint Pens, from Artistro and tried some rock painting! I had never done this before, so this was completely new to me. I did make a big rainbow and then a little heart rainbow on a smaller rock.

On Day8 I made another rainbow, only this time on paper and completely flat. This stamp set is Rainbows, it´s from Avery Elle and I just adore it. I used a ridiculous amount of Copics for the colouring, but that happens all the time. I always use so many markers to get depth and details.

I finished it with a sentiment from the stamp set, a friend diecut from Mama Elephant and lots of Crystal Clear Fusion sequins from Studio Katia. The reel for this card can be found HERE.

Star Light Hop | The Rabbit Hole Design & Pear Blossom Press Collaboration | Light up cards

Hi and welcome back to another fun post! This one is definitely for you if you like interactive cards!

Today’s cards are a collaboration between The Rabbit Hole Designs and Pear Blossom Press. There is a sweet little bundle available that includes a stamp set called Bunny Moon, and it has a coordinating die, gorgeous patterned paper, EZ-Lights and more!

I made two cards, one off camera and one on-camera, for a video on YouTube. There is also a fun Instagram hop, where some crafty friends are showing off this fun bundle and amazing projects.

For my first card, I used the Halo Lights, along with the stamp, diecut and some pattern paper. I forgot to take photos of this one, but I did remember to take a photo of the second card, on which I used the EZ-Lights.

After securing the lights to the back of the card, with double-sided tape, I added LOTS of foam tape to prop up the card front. This is obviously showing the EZ-Lights, but I did it on the back of the card using the Halo Lights too. The reason for this is to make sure the button isn’t pressed in all the time, in order to save the battery.

The Halo Lights and EZ-Lights from Pear Blossom Press are so incredibly easy to use, even a technology-idiot like me can use them. I have had very little success with other light-up techniques as I’m just not very good with that stuff. It has to be easy, because otherwise I will simply not use it.

The first card was done with a Copic coloured Bunny Moon image, that I cut out with the coordinating die. Using one of the sheets of pattern paper, I cut out a stitched rectangle and a stitched circle. I matched the size of the circle to the Halo Lights, and adhered that to the back.

The sentiment is heat embossed in Rich Gold from WOW! Embossing on vellum, and I wrapped this around the card panel before it was adhered to a card base.

Under the circle, I added another piece of the Galaxy pattern paper but I’m thinking that I should have used the actual circle I cut out, to keep it the same.

The second card I did remembered to film, apart from the colouring part, which I did with Fadeout Ink from Inkon 3 and Copic markers.

On the front of this card I heatembossed a sentiment and two of the shooting stars images, in Opaque Bright White embossing powder. On the back of the card panel I lined up the EZ-Lights to be where the shooting stars were, as well as one right above the bunny. I also heat embossed the star that says ‘press here’ and cut it out with the coordinating die, before adhering it to the spot over the button.

Another Rabbit Hole Design card and giveaway winner!

Hi and welcome back to another post!

This one is going to be short and sweet, with just a quick card and the giveaway winner announcement from the recent blog hop!

The card is featuring the Clover Bunny stamp set, from the new release.

I started out by stamping the image with Copic friendly ink on Neenah #110 card stock, and coloured it in with Copics. Cool Greys for the bunny and a mix of greens for the clover.

When I had finished the colouring, I used the coordinating diecut to cut him out, as well as another two pieces. These I layered up to give him a little bit of dimension.

The sentiment is from the same Clover Bunny stamp set and I used Mushroom ink from Concord & 9th. Black ink seemed to harsh for such a sweet sentiment.

The background is ink blended over a heart stencil from MFT Stamps, and I actually didn’t need to add any more ink than what was left on my Life Changing Blender Brushes. It probably means I need to give my brushes a good ole spa day soon!

The Rabbit Hole Designs March Release!

Hello and welcome back to a fun blog hop!

Today I am one of the stops on the new release blog hop for The Rabbit Hole Design, and this month they are introducing their new in-house designer Tatsiana! Her range is full of cute bunnies and there is a spring theme to them, which I always find inspiring. There is something about spring, and the hope of better weather, and of summer and sunshine. Ah, bliss!

Of course it wouldn’t be a celebration without some fun giveaways, right? Now, for some card making!

For my first card I used the Hip Hop Squad stamp set, and it’s coordinating diecut. I stamped it first in black ink, then right on top of that with the Embossing Pad and then heat embossed it with Clear Gloss embossing powder, as I wanted to do some water colouring. I have actually used the new Love’n’Hearts ink colours from Catherine Pooler to colour in the images, and I also ink smooshed some onto a background to add some colour that way.

After cutting out the image, I also cut out another piece in white card stock and one in black. These I layered up, with Lawn Fawn liquid glue, and then I added some Glossy Accents to the paint bits on the image to make it look like wet paint. On the background I stamped ‘you’re a good egg‘ in Catching Rays, and then off-set the sentiment a little and stamped it again with black ink. Once the image was adhered to the background, the card was done!

For my second card I used another background I made while ink smooshing with the Catherine Pooler inks for the first one. The colours on this piece were a lot lighter, and almost pastel. It really made me think spring so I stamped up the Bunny Bouquet image right on top! Like the bunny was frolicking in spring flowers. Thank goodness for a MISTI at times, as I needed to stamp it about three times to get a good impression.

I did add a little bit more colour to a few of the images, just to frame the bunny a little. A ‘hello’ diecut sentiment from Pink Fresh Studio was the final touch for this one.

My third card was heat embossed, in Opaque Bright White embossing powder, with the biggest image from Come Fly With Me. I used a mix of Daniel Smith and Prisma Marketing water colours to colour this in. Originally I had planned on using the coordinating diecut on this, but I added Glossy Accents to the bow on the basket before I remembered, so I had to rethink the card.

It ended up getting trimmed a little bit and added to a white card base, keeping it simple. This is actually the only card I have added sequins to! Ha, my over-sequinizing ways might be getting under control.

MFT Stamps Sketch Challenge

Hi everyone!

Today’s post is a quick one, as it’s a quick card! I peeked at the MFT Stamps Sketch Challenge for this week and I thought hmm, I can do this one. I did end up flipping the sketch on its side though.

I started by colouring the doggies in the PAWsome Lucky Dog stamp set from MFT Stamps, this one is retired sadly. I used so many Copics for these little guys to created texture, dimension and to bring them to life!

When they were all coloured in, I then cut them out with the coordinating die-namics. How cute is this little gang? As a self-confessed CDL/Crazy Dog Lady I have a weakness for doggie stamps.

As I’m challenging myself to make more CAS/Clean And Simple cards, I wanted to make it very simple and let the doggies take centre stage. So I cut out a scalloped square out of some patterned paper, from the Trail Mix 6×6 Paper Pack. Because I love blue, I used a blue one. This paper pack is also retired, as I have hoarded it for so long, lol!

A quick straight to the point sentiment, You’re Dog-gone Awesome, was stamped up with black ink on white card stock. I trimmed it down a little and then stuck all these bits down onto a white card card base. That was it. Not even a single sequin! Can you believe it??

I’m going to try and remember to submit this to the Sketch Challenge in time, as I usually don’t. Kind of nuts, as there is a $50 gift card up for grabs just to submit the card as the winner is randomly drawn.

PFS August Release | Stella Puppy Cards

Hi guys!!

Where are my fellow crazy dog people at? In this month’s Picket Fence Studio release there is a super cute puppy stamp called Stella Puppy.

It looks so much like my sweet Lab boy Hercules, who we lost back in 2016 after a very short, but ferocious health issue battle. Less than six weeks after that, we lost our remaining Lab, called Molly, in a tragic accident. The cards I got from friends after we lost them meant the world to me, because losing a fur baby, never mind two, is one of the most gut wrenching things you can ever go through.

I’ve made two card, doing my thing where they are similar but slightly different. On the first card I stamped the Stella Puppy up with my MISTI and Black Hybrid ink directly onto a card base of Neenah card stock. After setting the ink with my WOW! Embossing heat tool, I got to work with Copics. I don’t have a photo of the first one, but here is the second one I did.

I wanted to add a rainbow on the background but I don’t have a rainbow stencil *insert shocked gasps and wide-eyed looks here* I know, it’s shocking. So, what to do? Well, I made my own! First I cut out a mask and added over most of the doggie, then I used a small bowl to cut out a curved shape out of card stock. This I used as a stencil/mask and ink blended Ink On 3 Atelier Inks in Bee Sting Yellow, Goddess Green, Peacock Blue, My Jam Purple and Marilyn Red with Life Changing Blender Brushes.

My brushes are a little bit over-saturated and need a spa day, and I should have used a new mask for each colour, as they blended into each other BUT it did also give me an extra teal colour between green and blue. The last bit, in the top left corner, I should have skipped because I feel like it got too dark, but oh well.

On white card stock I stamped up some sentiments from the Stella Puppy set with Black Hybrid ink. These I trimmed down as much as I could and then added over some areas where I wasn’t happy the colouring and ink blending had overlapped.

The final touch was to add some Glossy Accents to the little nose and set it aside to dry.

On my second card, for which there is a video on my YouTube channel, I tried applying what I learnt from the first card. With some success and some more issues. Card making is never straightforward in my craft room, lol!

For this, I decided to stamp up the Stella Puppy on a separate piece of Copic friendly card stock, with my Mini MISTI with the Black Hybrid Ink, colour it in and then fussy cut it out. I used slightly different colour Copics on this one and I think the depth is better, than the first one, so that was good. You can see the difference in the photo above.

Second, I used a sheet of acetate to make my “stencil”, instead of card stock. The reasoning for this is that with acetate I can just wipe off the ink, and have less contamination. Good start. Less good execution. I used a, what I thought was, permanent marker to draw the shape of the curve of the rainbow. Well, it was less permanent and more smudgy than I realised, which led to a slightly dirty looking yellow bit. I trimmed off the part with the marker on it, and carried on.

I used the same Atelier Inks on this one, in the same order, after wiping my Life Changing Blender Brushes on kitchen towels. I also used a lighter hand with the inks.

With the negative part of the stencil/mask I was able to add more green to the background, without mixing in the blue. This is better explained in the video, but I didn’t add enough green or moved the stencil/mask too far when I did the blue, which left a gap. By covering up the blue with the negative bit, I was able to add the green without contaminating the blue. Pretty smart, huh?

On this card, I stamped up the sentiments, again from Stella Puppy, directly onto the card base with Black Hybrid ink. Then I adhered the fussy cut puppy with liquid glue and added the Glossy Accent to the nose.

There is another sweet pet stamp in the release called Your Friend Dear. I’ve done the same thing with this stamp: basically the same layout, but different looks.

This was the one I started with, and I actually stopped midway because I was not very happy with the colouring of the dog. I couldn’t make it work!

In order to get me out of that funk, I stamped it up again and tried another colour combination, this time with Warm Greys. This worked better and I finished off the card with a very colourful girl, and a simple sentiment from Levels Of Friendship. And the Glossy Accent again.

With this one being a success, and also my meh-ness about the first one having died down a little, I thought I’d give it another go. I’m very glad I did because I did actually manage to turn it around!

To make sure this one was different than the first one, with all that white space, I cut a mask out and placed over the image. Over this I used the Fancy Kaleidoscope stencil and Distress Oxide inks in Wild Honey, Worn Lipstick and a hint of Abandoned Coral. They created this gorgeous glow around the image and I love how it turned out!

The final touch for this card was to stamp up the sentiment that comes with Your Friend Dear, in Black Hybrid ink and with that, it was all done. The last two cards are not in it, but there is a video for one of the rainbow puppy cards on my YouTube channel.

A card making fail and remake with Picture Perfect stamps from MFT Stamps

Hi guys!

How are we all? I hope you are better than I am. I’m battling a cold that has given me a red raw nose, wiped me out and left me feeling really quite sorry for myself. My little chicas aren’t being the best nurse maids either. I catch them sleeping on the job several times a day.

For my birthday this year I got some lovely goodies from MFT Stamps, courtesy of The Man. One of the sets I got was Picture Perfect and I loved it from the minute I saw sneak peeks of it. It’s full of funny selfie looking images featuring animals and I have such a soft spot for cute critters. I also got the Polaroid Shaker Frame and #Captions dienamic.

The first card I made with the set, was full of rookie mistakes… I forgot to colour in the entire image and the background. I also messed up the first Polaroid dienamic cutout I made with the help of #Captions dienamic. Also, the Polaroid was put on wrongly too and ended up covering too much of the doggies. Oh well. Things happen and doesn’t always go the way you plan but I think it’s important to show the fails along with the winners. Just in case someone gets discouraged with their own work and thinks ‘oh, she never messes up’. Oh yes, I do.

As I liked the idea I had in my head for this card, I decided to redo it from scratch and fix all the mistakes I made.

First things first, and I started with the Polaroid Shaker Frame and the #Captions dienamics. This time I did it the right way, i.e. did it the way I had intended to before I messed up. In the photo you can see the failed one (the left) but the bit that’s messed up, is actually under the dienamic here so you can’t see it. I only changed up the colours a little.

Next step was to stamp up the image from Picture Perfect and colour it in. I use Ink On 3 Blackout Ink for most of my Copic colouring these days and Neenah Solar White 110# card stock. It’s a brilliant ink. The amount of Copics it took to colour this tiny image is almost laughable, the number is up there in the 30+ figures.

Another product I have recently gotten my hands on is Pixie Spray from Therm O Web. Something that has always annoyed me is getting smudged lines when doing inkblending and using embellishment mousses and I have been dreaming of a product like this for a long time! The trick to using this is patience. Spray the stencil, and then let it sit for at least a couple of minutes before adding it to the thing you want to stencil. It’s very important to let it dry out for a little bit to let the tack develop. If you use it too soon, it won’t stick to your project. Go on, ask me how I know this! *slaps forehead*

This stencil is also new, it’s called Lots Of Hearts, another MFT Stamps knock out! Anything with cute critters and hearts = I’m sold. Oh and ombré or rainbows. Because of the colouring of the image, I decided to use yellow, through greens to blue on it. I usually use masking tape when it comes to masking off things but here I’ve used Post-It tape.

These luscious inks are from Catherine Pooler. Not only do they stamp beautifully, they work for ink blending and water colouring! From top to bottom is Something Borrowed, Aquatini, Lime Rickey, Garden Party, Tiara and Limoncello.

I use the Life Changing Blender Brushes, from Picket Fence Studios, pretty much exclusively these days. I get much better results with these brushes than I ever did using the foam pad ink blending tools. I still have them, but I reach for my brushes 9 times out of 10.

One little tip I have for adding foam to an intricate diecut, such as the ‘Friend Duo‘ dienamic I used for this card, is one I use a lot. It takes out some of the fiddly work and makes things a lot easier. So step one is to cut it out of the foam but leave it in the negative bits. Cut the same shape out of your choice of card stock. Then pull off the cover from the self-adhesive foam and layer the card stock over the foam one.

This little trick has saved my sanity many a times when I have tried to layer up the pieces and they have been separated. Now, this looks very almost black here but it’s actually dark gray. It’s a Lawn Fawn card stock called Narwhal.

Before putting all the pieces together on the card, I took a moment to make sure I didn’t repeat the same mistakes I made on the first card.

I really like how this came out! But then it has doggies and bright colours. LOL! I can see myself using this Picture Perfect set a lot. MFT Stamps does it again!

Happy Pawlidays + MFT Stamps Sketch Challenge #408

Hi guys!

Today’s card is for this week’s Sketch Challenge over at MFT Stamps. We are already on Sketch #408 and my fourth, and penultimate, post as a guest designer. The sketch looks like this:

I am a certified CDL (Crazy Dog Lady) and I have two little cheeky doggies at home. I just love dogs and couldn’t go the whole spell as a guest designer without using some kind of doggo on a card, now could I? As Christmas is looming closer and closer it’s starting to become crunch time making Christmas cards but doggos… awww *insert soppy sounds here* Problem solved by using the adorable Happy Pawlidays stamp set!

The little cheeky rascal all tangled up in the Christmas lights remind me of my little doggies so I decided to use him. I used so many Copics to colour this one tiny image but he came out quite cute in the end.

I also stamped up some baubles for the small dots element on the sketch. These I coloured with Copics first and then heat embossed a snowflake on them with white WOW embossing powder.

To make the hat appear a bit more furry, I drew on lots of different sized dots using a white gel pen. To make the christmas lights pop, I used some Glossy Accents on them, after cutting the doggie out with the coordinating die-namic.

On a card base I stuck down two 1″ wide strips of stripy patterned paper, one along the top and one along the bottom, using double sided tape. Genius stuff that!

As this is a Christmas card, I decided to use the Christmas Background stamp for this card too. Only for this one, I heat embossed it with WOW Rich Gold embossing powder. It’s a gorgeous shade of gold this one. While I had my heatgun out and hot, I also heat embossed ‘Merry Christmas’ on a banner. The sentiment is from the Trio Of Trees stamp set and fits perfectly on the banner.

To bring in the circle element, I cut one out of vellum to adhered behind the dog. Kind of like an aura on innocence, despite the clear evidence he’s been rather naughty, lol!

The dog and the baubles are all adhered using foam tape, but the vellum and the sentiment banner are adhered using double sided tape to keep them flat.

That’s it for this card! It wasn’t as smooth sailing as it may appear, there was a lot of over-thinking and changing things around as I went along, which seems to be my usual MO. The finished card came out quite sweet in the end and that’s all that matters.

MFT Stamps Sketch Challenge405 with yours truly as Guest Designer!

At first, I thought about using a dinosaur I coloured up the other day, to make a mountainous scene buuuuuut… well, I’m nothing if not a flick-and-switch crafter, I have so many different projects on the go at any one time. One of those other projects is to work through my stash of unused and less-used-than-other stamps and I was inspired by a kitty from the I Knead You set. This is probably one of my earliest sets from MFT Stamps, I have had it for years but used it very, very little. Which is nuts because it is filled with cute images. It comes with coordinating die-namics too, thankfully.

The kitty I decided on using looks like he’s laying on his back with his tummy up, like he’s waiting for a belly rub or about to catch a toy. Or, as I ended up using him, holding a banner with a sentiment.

I used Warm Grey Copic markers to colour him in and a light pink on his nose and ears.  With this kind of coordinating die-namics, I find it easier to cut them out first and then stamp the image, as it’s a bit tricky to get a perfect cut otherwise.

Originally I was going to use the background, stamped with balls of yarn and fishbones (little detail stamps from the set), where the Kraft card stock piece is. In an unsurprising move, when I had stamped up and coloured it in, I liked it too much to cut it up. This happens to me a lot, I have a huge resistance to covering up or cutting up cute pieces, no matter how great an idea I have.

Anyway, as I couldn’t bring myself to cut it up once it was coloured, I adhered it to a card base and had to come up with a new idea. I made a “rug” by cutting out a piece of Kraft card stock and running that through my BigShot with the Full Of Hearts coverplate, to create some texture.

The very useful Essential Fishtail Banner Sentiment strips are one of my most used banner dienamics. I use these for so many projects! On a small one I stamped ‘I Love Mew’ from the I Knead You set and adhered that to my kitty so it looks like he’s holding it.

On the back of the kitty I added foam tape and to finish off the sketch, I stamped, coloured and cut out a ball of yarn and added that to the banner with more foam tape. This way there are five layers to the card, and I’m all about those layers, whether we are talking cards or cake.
