Tonic Studios January 2021 Backgrounds & Borders Release!

Hi guys!

Today I am super excited to be one of the stops on the Tonic Studios January release blog hop! When my friend Maria asked if I wanted to take part it was like ‘yeah, duh!!’ lol, so here I am! Whoop whoop!

This release is a small monthly ones, launched on the last Friday of each month (exceptions made for holidays) They will only be sold as a bundle, not separate. It’s not a subscription or requires a commitment, you can pick and chose which bundles you get but if you spot one you like, grab it quickly as they are limited and once sold out, won’t be restocked.

There is of course prizes to celebrate, no blog hop is complete without one. One lucky winner will win a £50/$50 Giftcard to Tonic Studios and the Backgrounds & Borders Bundle! All you have to do is leave a comment on this blog, and the more stops you comment on, the bigger your chance to win!

The full blog hop list will be at the bottom on the post, and your next stop is my super talented friend Ilda.

This month’s release is a backgrounds and borders bundle and you know I love making my own patterned paper and backgrounds, so this was right up my alley. The stamps in the set are all done so that repetitive stamping is a breeze, and I went to work right away. In rainbow colours, of course.

With the help of a MISTI, this was done so quickly that I ended up doing two, just because. There is something insanely satisfying about seeing a pattern emerge and come to life. For the majority of the cards in this post, I have used Atelier Inks from Ink On 3 to create the colourful patterned paper and then used the diecuts to cut them up to make cards with. Another thing I love about this is that you get two for one, using the positive and the negative cuts from the patterned paper. So no waste, yay!

From top to bottom I’ve used Sweet Petunia Pink, Marigold Orange, Bee Sting Yellow, Goddess Green, Trinity Teal and Peacock Blue.

The dies I have used the most are ‘miss’, ‘you’, and ‘friend’ from the coordinating diecuts. On the cards where I used the “leftover” panel from the cuts, I also cut the words out of black card stock to fill in the gaps.

For the words themselves, I cut out the words again out of foam sheet to layer them up for a clean and simple card.

One I kept uber clean and simple by adding the words to a white card base directly, and nothing else. Not even a sequin!!

On the second card I added a piece of black card stock behind the words to make them pop.

The Man prefers the white one, as he’s not a fan of black on cards. I, on the other hand, really like how that black background piece make the words stand out and the colours seem more vivid to me.

Good thing I made enough panels to make one for each of our tastes, eh?

I did make another card as well, by using one of the coordinating diecuts several times on a piece of black card stock, to cut out a cover die panel basically. I swapped direction of the die every time to make the pattern.

This panel I trimmed down to be slightly smaller than the usual A2 size, 5.5″x4.25″, so that it left a little bit of a border around the edges. The reason I did this was to let the colourful background pop out a bit.

I absolutely love making these backgrounds with strips of coloured card stock and I had a few *cough, cough* laying around from a play session a while back. It is time to use some of them up and they are just perfect for the idea I had.

To finish this off, I diecut the word ‘miss’ out of white card stock and layered these up and topped it with another ‘miss’ cut out of Honey Gold mirror card stock. This is my fave gold card stock, which is sadly not available anymore. It’s slightly matte, and a lovely gold colour, not too yellow, not too brassy, just perfect.

On a white banner I stamped up ‘your face’ and added these to the card so it says ‘miss your face’.

With that, I’m all done for today and it’s time to either hop on or shop on! Lol, get it? I know, I’m a dork. Can’t help it. I did actually make a video for some of these, and you can find that video on my YouTube channel.

The next stop is the amazing Ilda and the rest of the hop lineup can be found at the bottom of the post, in case you get lost.

Thanks for stopping by today! Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica

Love these bright and cheerful cards! Great idea for a two for one card set, and I like how you created a background die cut from the strip die. Clever ideas.

OMGosh, Erica… How did I never find you before Mr Jeff L’s session with you? I LOVE all these items that you have shared above. I think in your first card (white letters w/ colorful dots on a white card) I could get a little philosophical and say that it almost is a card symbolic of how we’re living while missing our friends and loved ones. We can read the text but it almost looks like part of each letter is missing. It’s not; it just seems that way. A metaphor for pandemic: we keep living but it sure seems like some of our heart is missing. It’s there – we just aren’t getting to see those people that make our hearts beat a little faster or flood with love. I just cannot tell you how cool I think your cards are and I am thrilled to see you in the group of artists / designers promoting this release. I got mine immediately b/c I think it will sell out.
Have you had a Kalimocho yet there in Spain??
