Hi, hi, hello and welcome to Studio Katia 3rd Anniversary Blog Hop!
You should have arrived from the amazingly talented Emily Midgett and one of my all-time crafty crushes, The One And Only Erum Tasneem is your next stop. If you get lost you can find the full hop list below or visit Studio Katia Blog!
Today I’m honoured to be taking part in a special celebration for Studio Katia’s 3rd birthday! When Studio Katia first launched I was part of the DT and it’s such a thrill to be back with a guest designer gig for the birthday blog hop!
We are celebrating with both a Blog Hop and a New Release. This release includes 5 new clear stamp sets and 1 set of coordinating dies, 1 new stand alone Creative Die, 2 new Stencils and lots of new embellishments!
I have used the new Floral Garden stamp set because duh, flowers! LOL.
This is a very large image and I decided to use the whole thing for my project. Nothing like setting a challenge for yourself during a heat wave, eh? It’s been scorching weather here in Poland for weeks now and the humidity is even worse. It’s zapped me a little bit and it seriously took me four days to colour in the whole thing!
Ok, so I skipped a little bit here: I stamped it with my MISTI on Bristol Vellum card stock, first with black ink and then VersaMark ink on top so I could heat emboss clear embossing powder over it.
The images themselves are all coloured in with rich and intense colours, using Zig Clean Color Markers. I did not add any water at all to make sure the colours are as vivid as they could get.
Here is a little better close up of the colouring too. I’ve been working on my shading and depth, and whilst there is always room for improvements, even The Man is impressed with how far I’ve come from where I first started. The important thing to remember when it comes to anything you enjoy, is to only compete against yourself. Try bettering yourself against what you did yesterday and the rest will follow.
As it’s a birthday blog hop, it made total sense to me to make it a birthday card. I have used a sentiment that says ‘May Your Birthday Be As Awesome As You Are!’ From the Birthday Greetings stamp set. Another must-have from Studio Katia. I heat embossed it in gold on vellum and then cut down to a slim strip.
When it came time to adhere the sentiment strip to the card I was so focused on getting it on straight, which ironically I did, but in the wrong spot! The way the bouquet was supposed to go was with the pink flowers at the bottom, not both to the left on the card. Naturally, I did not spot this until I had not only glued down the vellum strip to the card but also added foam tape to the back of it and adhered the whole thing to a card base, effectively locking the strip in place for good. I must admit I nearly cried when I realised! But oh well, these things happen. It’s still a pretty card.
You might wonder why on earth I’d use this ‘fail’ for such a big deal blog hop, and the answer is simple: to show everyone who might struggle with their mojo/confidence/experience levels that we all mess up. It helped my confidence massively to see my crafty crushed admit when things did not turn out the way they planned or when things went totally south. Not because I wanted them to fail but because it made them seem more human and normal to me. I’m hoping that by sharing this mess-up, someone who might be struggling with their confidence, will be encouraged that we all fail at times. It’s ok. Just keep going.
