Hello and welcome to the next stop of the Altenew Refresh Your Alcohol Marker release blog hop! If you have arrived here from the insanely talented Norine Borys, you are in the right place but no matter how you arrived, welcome!
Today we are hopping along to celebrate the release of the refills to Altenew’s Artist Markers and man, it was just in the nick of time for mine as I’ve used them LOADS since they were released. I love the fact that they are a great affordable option to Copics as well as that they come in packs of four, which takes all the guess-work out of which ones work together. Rather genius of Altenew, I’d say.
I have made two cards for todays hop, and I’ve used Artist Markers from Set A (Refills), Set B(Refills) AND Set C.(Refills) You can get them individually, by set OR grab the whole 36 set of refills.
For my first card I used the darling set Sweetest Peas. I started out by placing a 5.5”x4.25” card panel made out of Neenah Classic Crest solar white #110 card stock in my MISTI and stamping up three of the sweet peas in Permanent Black ink. Then it was time to colour! The actual flowers are coloured with markers from Set B/Summer Afternoon. For a little time-lapse video on my Instagram page, click HERE.
After colouring in the flowers, I used the black marker (from Set A and Green Fields) to colour in the background. By using a marker, you won’t get a completely solid black but rather a textured black if that makes sense?
Once the entire background was covered in black, I dusted the panel with my anti-static tool and popped it back into the MISTI, where I had left the Sweetest Peas stamps I used. With my ‘dirty’ VersaMark pad (this is what I call my VersaMark ink pad that’s completely contaminated with ink colours it has picked up from inky stamps) I dabbed it over the flowers and stamped the panel again. To get a lovely contrast to all that black, I sprinkled Antique Gold embossing powder on it and set it with my heat gun.
While I was at it with the VersaMark and embossing powder, I also stamped up one of the sentiments from the Sweetest Peas stamp set ‘Hello my sweet friend’ on a strip of black card stock. The panel was adhered to a card base and the sentiment strip was trimmed down and added with foam tape too.
Looking up close at this card, some stray embossing powder is adding a lovely little something extra to the flowers, almost like a shimmery mist. Usually I’m not a fan of stray embossed bits but on this card I think it works wonderfully.
My second card is an adaptation of a rainbow card I made with the Artist Markers, except for this one I have only used yellows from Set B/Summer Afternoon as well as Mango Smoothie from Set C/Four Scoops set.
On a card base made with alcohol marker friendly card stock I drew thick lines of each colour, creating a gradient look from dark at the bottom, to light in the middle and back to dark at the top.
To add a little bit of texture to the background I dipped a natural sponge in alcohol and dabbed all over it. In hind-sight I should have skipped this step as it warped the card stock a bit being so saturated but never mind.
Using the same markers on Yupo paper, after marking out how big a piece I’d need to cover the You Are Loved diecut, I covered this piece as well.
On top of that I also dripped some ink directly from the bottle of Buttercream Artist Marker refill and before that dried, I added some gold foil to it.
Once I was sure it was completely dry, I cut the ‘You Are Loved‘ sentiment out of it and did another piece in a medium grey card stock to layer up with.
These I added directly to the front of the card base and after adding some shiny gold sequins, the card was done! For a time-lapse video of the whole process from start to finish for this card, click HERE.
I think this card can be done in various colours using the Artist Markers, just switch them, and the sentiment, out to fit the recipient or occasion.
Now all the crafting has been covered, let’s get on to the fun stuff! It wouldn’t be a new release celebration without some prizes and a big giveaway, now would it??
