Concord & 9th Stripes & Sayings Feature Friday!

Hi guys!

Today Concord & 9th is shining the spotlight on the Stripes & Sayings stamp set as part of the July release Feature Friday.

I have four cards to show off today, so not quite the epic like last week, lol! Click HERE if you missed that post. You shouldn’t need to rehydrate and bring a snack for this one.

Right, let’s get right to it! My first card is a rainbow-tastic creation, using a different colour Distress Oxide ink on each stripe. The marvellous MISTI was a huge help for this. I wanted a bit of a shabby chic look and to achieve this I only stamped each stripe once so it wasn’t too perfect. I also dabbed a bit of the next colour on the stripe, to make it more “grungy”.

Because I am one of those people who can’t bear covering up a pretty background, I decided to keep it simple sentiment wise and just use the Say Hello diecut, another Concord & 9th gem. The shadowy part I cut out of vellum and the word part is gold mirror card stock. A few matte gold sequins finished it off and that’s it.

My second card was a lot quicker: On a black card base (I love Lawn Fawn’s Black Licorice card stock) I stamped the stripes with Mermaid Lagoon Distress Oxide ink. Again, only one time but if you want a brighter, more opaque look, stamp it again until you are happy with the colour. If this is your approach, a MISTI will make your life a lot easier.

I smeared Squeezed Lemonade, Cracked Pistachio, Blueprint Sketch and Mermaid Lagoon Distress ink directly on the stripes, then stamped it onto a piece of water colour card stock. I used my MISTI for this. Once I had dried the panel with my heat gun, I placed it back in the MISTI and rearranged the stripes so they would go in the blank spaces between the stamped stripes. Using Memento Black Tuxedo ink and stamping a few times, the white spaces filled in quite nicely. They are not completely solid as the water colour card stock is textured but I kinda like it!

The same Say Hello diecut came out and I cut it out of the colour/black stripes panel. I also cut one out of foam sheet and attached to the back of the first one. This got placed on the card base to line up with the black stripes. A quick stamp job with some of the sentiments available in the Say Hello stamp set (this is the coordinating set for the diecut I used for these first two cards) made the card say ‘Hello there, baby boy’. A few matte enamel dots in similar colours to what the ‘Hello’ is, were the last touch.

My third card is another colour explosion. I ink blended Twisted Citron, Peacock Feather, Mermaid Lagoon and Blueprint Sketch on a piece of water colour card stock and then splattered some water droplets on it. The panel got a quick swish with the heat gun to dry it completely, then it got swept over with my anti-static tool and finally it was popped into my MISTI to be stamped with the Stripes using VersaMark ink. I used clear embossing powder to make the colours pop even more, I love this effect!

To finish off the card I cut out a shape using the Ribbon Banner diecut, once in white card stock and once in foam sheet, and these were layered up. I probably should have stamped the sentiment first, just in case something went wrong but in this instance the crafting gods were on my side and I managed to stamp up ‘Congratulations, You’re amazing’ using sentiments from the Stripes & Sayings stamps. I used the same Distress Oxide ink colours as the background to create an ombré effect.

For a bit of added interest, I bunched up some gold thread and adhered it to the card by adding the banner over it. A few matte gold sequins scattered around were the last bits added.

My last card also uses Distress Oxide inks but in yet another different way. I started out by heat embossing the heart stripe, in white, almost in the middle of a 5.5″x4.25″ panel. This is also water colour card stock. Then I added some colour by ink blending Worn Lipstick and Picked Raspberry around the edges. For some reason or another, I didn’t like where it was going but didn’t want to waste the panel so it was time to MacGyver it a bit. What to do, what to do….? Well, the answer came with adding shimmer. When in doubt, add shimmer, right??

To add some gold shimmer to the panel and to rescue it from the bin, I got my Gansai Tambi Starry Color water colour palette out. These are my go-to-shimmers. I love them! I decided to use No905 Light Gold and with a very wide brush I smeared it on in a circle like motion. It kind of ended up looking like a pink and gold eye of a tornado! Aaaaaand, because I was on a big roll by now, I also splattered more pink ink on the panel.

Once it was completely dry, I popped it into my Mini MISTI and stamped the Heartfelt Smile stamp on it with black ink. I had to stamp it quite a few times to make it show up, due to all the shimmer on the background. With a wet tissue I cleaned off the paint and ink from the hearts to make them show up better and to finish off the card, I cut out three hearts using one of the diecuts from the Triple-step Thank You set. One I dabbed Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide ink on, the next one Worn Lipstick and the last one I merely ‘framed’ with gentle dabs of the ink blending tool I still had Picked Raspberry ink on. These were added to the card using different height foam tape to create some dimension and interest.

Phew, ok, maybe I was a bit overly optimistic in the beginning of this post about it not being epic… Sorry about that but yay for it being Friday, right?? Who is crafting this weekend? I sure am!

Right, before I sign off, I need to mention that I have used compensated affiliate links in this post. What that means is that I get a small commission from the company directly, Concord & 9th for instance, if you click on one of these links and buy yourself a little something-something. At ZERO extra cost to you, I’d like to add, so it’s a win-win if you choose to support me like this. It really does mean the world to me so thanks in advance!
